Structure-directing role of anionic ligands in the assembly of Cd(II) coordination polymers based on SO42−/3,5-dicarboxybenzenesulfonate and flexible bis(benzimidazole) derivatives

Three new Cd(II) coordination polymers with different topological structures, namely, [Cd(hbdmbm)(SO4)]n (1), {[Cd3(hbdmbm)4(5-SSPIA)2]·(H2O)2}n (2) and [Cd3(bbdmbm)4(5-SSPIA)2]n (3) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The anionic ligands play important structure-directing role in the assembly of the title complexes.
