Three coordination polymers of novel symmetrical biphenyl-4,4′-diacetic acid (H2bpda) with sodium(I), magnesium(II) and cobalt(II) ions, [Na4(bpda)2(H2O)4] (1), [Mg2(bpda)1.5(H2O)8]·(bpda)0.5·H2O (2) and [Co(bpda)(H2O)4] (3), where bpda = biphenyl-4,4′-diacetate have been synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray analysis showed differences in coordination modes of bpda ligand depending on the chemical nature of the metal ion, that results in formation of diverse coordination polymers (1D or 3D). Infrared spectra of the investigated compounds have been analyzed. Moreover, the thermal behavior of the complexes has been investigated by the TG/DSC and TG/FT-IR methods.
Graphical abstractThree complexes of novel symmetrical biphenyl-4,4′-diacetic acid (H2bpda) with sodium(I), magnesium(II) and cobalt(II) ions have been synthesized. They have forms of: 3-D (sodium complex) or 1-D (magnesium and cobalt complexes) coordination polymers. The biphenyl-4,4′-diacetate ligand exhibits different coordination modes.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
