Abstract

Mononuclear Co(II) complexes of the [CoCl2L2] family, with L being a heterocyclic N-donor ligand, were subjected to magnetochemical investigation. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and the field dependence of the magnetization have been analyzed simultaneously in terms of the spin Hamiltonian formalism. The magnetic parameters obtained by a fitting procedure show a considerable magnetic anisotropy measured by the g-factor difference and the zero-field splitting parameter 2D, that splits the ground term 4B1(D2d) and/or 4A2(C2v).

Graphical abstractFour mononuclear cobalt(II) complexes of the [CoIICl2L2] type were investigated by taking the susceptibility and magnetization data. They show a large zero-field splitting parameter D ranging between −3 and +41 cm−1.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slideHighlights► Magnetic data for tetracoordinate Co(II) complexes were analyzed. ► The g-components show a considerable anisotropy. ► The D-values range between –3 and +41 cm–1.
