Two novel azide cadmium(II) compounds [Cd4(dafone)4Cl2(μ1,1-N3)4(μ1,1,1-N3)2] (1) and [Cd4(dafone)4(N3)2(μ1,1-N3)4(μ1,1,1-N3)2] (2) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and crystallographic methods. They are first cadmium(II) complexes adopting double open cubane-like structure. The fluorescence properties of the complexes 1 and 2 were examined both in solid state and solution, and compared with the free ligand. Additionally, the electronic spectra of 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one and 1 were investigated at the TDDFT level.
