Abstract
The synthesis, structural and spectroscopic studies of [Ca(Hsucm)(NO3)(H2O)]n (1) and [Ca(Hsucm)2]n (2) are discussed. The succinamate(-1) ligand adopts new ligation modes through the carboxylato and amide O-atoms thus promoting zig-zag chains and 2D networks in 1 and 2, respectively. The biological relevance of the structural differences of 1 and 2 with known LnIII complexes is also discussed.
