A polypyridyl ruthenium complex monodentately coordinated by 2-mercaptopyridine N-oxide was prepared as a candidate for showing linkage isomerisation. [Ru(bpy)(tpy)(2-OpyS)]PF6 (bpy: 2,2′-bipyridine; tpy: 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine; 2-OpyS−: anion of 2-mercaptopyridine N-oxide) was synthesised and structurally characterised. The complex contains a 2-OpyS− ligand coordinating only with the sulphur atom. Electrochemically induced linkage isomerisation was examined for this complex.
Graphical abstract[Ru(2,2′-bipyridine)(2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine)(2-mercaptopyridinato N-oxide)]PF6 was synthesized, structurally characterized, and electrochemically investigated. This is a novel example of a ruthenium complex in which the 2-mercaptopyridinato N-oxide ligand coordinates to ruthenium only through sulphur.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
