The dissolution of [(CH3)N]2Na[MnN(CN)5]·H2O in water results in the dissociation of the labile trans-CN ligand to form [MnN(H2O)(CN)4]2−(aq). The formed aqua complex reacts rapidly with a number of nucleophiles such as NCS− and N3−. Here we report the single crystal X-ray structure of the reaction products of as well as the equilibrium and kinetic behaviour of [MnN(H2O)(CN)4]2− in solution.
