Abstract
The methylmalonate ligand has been used to synthesize two novel and very similar carboxylate-bridged copper(II) chains. The N-donor coligands 3-Iodopyridine and 2,4â²-bipyridine determine the structural differences, mainly the pore size which in the case of the 2,4â²-bipyridine is capable to accommodate chains of fused pentagonal motives of water molecules. Both complexes exhibit intrachain ferromagnetic couplings through the equatorial-equatorial anti-syn carboxylate bridges.
