Two new trinuclear tin(IV) oxy-sulfide complexes, (Bu4N)[Sn3(μ3-OH)S3(edt)3] · DMF (1) and (Bu4N)[Sn3(μ3-OH)S3(edt)3] · H2O (2), which are the same salt with different solvates, were unexpectedly obtained by the reaction of (Bu4N)2[Sn3S4(edt)3] with CuCl2 (or KCuI2) and Zn(phen)(SCN)2 (or Cd(phen)(SCN)2), respectively. The two complexes have been characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, IR, far-IR, Raman, 1H NMR, ES-MS and element analysis. X-ray structure determinations reveal that complexes 1 and 2 possess the same incomplete cubane-like anion cluster of [Sn3(μ3-OH)S3(edt)3]−.
