Abstract
Reaction of Al(III) with d-(â)-quinic acid (pH 4.0), has led to the isolation of a new complex K[Al(C7H11O6)3] · (OH) · 4H2O (1). Complex 1 has been characterized by analytical, spectroscopic (FT-IR, NMR) and thermal techniques. X-ray crystallography reveals a mononuclear octahedral Al(III) bound by three quinates. The collective solid-state and aqueous solution studies formulate the physicochemical profile of 1 in the aqueous Al(III)-quinate speciation and shed light onto Al(III) binary interactions with O-containing substrates influencing molecular toxicity.
