Abstract

The combination of Nd(NO3)3 · 6H2O with 2,6-bis(methylphosphonic acid)pyridine N-oxide (3-H4) in water under hydrothermal conditions results in the formation of a complex Nd(3-H22-)(3-H31-)(H2O)4/3 and the molecular structure of the 1-D chain has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods.

Graphical abstractThe facile synthesis of the multifunctional phosphonic acid ligand shown here is reported along with the hydrothermal synthesis of a complex with Nd(III). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the asymmetric unit Nd(L-H22-)(L-H1-)·4/3H2O forms spiral chains through Nd–O–P bridges involving the (L-H22-) ligand fragment and both L-H22- and L-H1− act as tridentate chelates on the central Nd(III) ion.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
