[Ag(μ-sac)(μ-ppz)]n, 1 and [Ag(μ-sac)(μ-bheppz)]n, 2 (sac = saccharinate, ppz = piperazine and bheppz = N,N ′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, TGA/DTA and X-ray diffraction. Both complexes crystallize in the triclinic P1¯ space group and consist of one-dimensional coordination polymers. The silver(I) coordination environments in 1 and 2 are distorted T-shaped and tetrahedral, respectively. Silver(I) ions are doubly bridged by sac ligands, and further connected by ppz or bheppz bridges into linear infinite chains. The sac shows bidentate bridging mode, involving N- and carbonyl O-atoms in 1, while N- and sulfonyl O-atoms in 2. The polymeric chains are assembled into two-dimensional networks by hydrogen bonds and aromatic π(sac)–π(sac) stacking interactions. IR spectra and thermal analysis data are in agreement with the crystal structure.
Graphical abstractThe reaction of Na(sac) · 2H2O and AgNO3 in the presence of piperazine (ppz) or N,N′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine (bheppz) results in the formation of the corresponding coordination polymers [Ag(μ-sac)(μ-ppz)]n and [Ag(μ-sac)(μ-bheppz)]n. Silver(I) ions are doubly bridged by sac ligands, and further connected by ppz or bheppz bridges into one-dimensional linear chains. The chains are linked into 2D layers by hydrogen bonds.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
