The synthesis of Mo(V) Schiff base complexes derived from alkylamines and salycilaldehyde are reported. The compounds are characterised by chemical analysis, IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy. The title complex C4H9NH3[Mo2O4(N-C4H9-salim)2OCOCH3] · C6H6 · CH3COOH is characterised by X-ray structure analysis. The structure is composed of a di-μ-oxo-μ-acetato-bis[(N-butylsalicylideniminato-N,O)oxomolybdenum(V)] anion, butylammonium cation and two solvent molecules: benzene and acetic acid. The Mo atoms of the dinuclear complex [with Mo–Mo bond of 2.5675(5) Å] exhibit the octahedral geometry coordinated by a terminal Mo–Oterminal [〈1.681(4)〉 Å], a double Mo–Obridging [〈1.940(3)〉Å], Mo–Oacetato with bridging function exhibiting a significant trans influence [2.325(3) and 2.353(3) Å], Mo–Ophenolic [〈2.050(3)〉 Å] and azomethine nitrogen from a Schiff base [〈2.192(4)〉 Å].
