Abstract

•CF nanoparticle based FP composite cation exchange membrane.•The membrane has found to be thermally and mechanically stable.•The observed potential and surface charge density follows reverse order.•Such type of membrane has versatile applications in different field.

Calcium fluoride nanoparticle based ferric phosphate ion exchange composite membrane was prepared by the ideal sol–gel method. The membrane has been characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR and TGA analysis. Through these instrumental analysis it was clear that the composite material has crystalline nature and the prepared membrane has smooth, porous, cracks as well as breakage free surface. TMS method was used to find out the theoretical values of ionic potential. The observed potential and charge density follows KCl < NaCl < LiCl and LiCl < NaCl < KCl order respectively. By potential observation the transport number, mobility ratio, distribution coefficient, charge effectiveness, fixed charge density has been calculated very easily.
