•Two heterometallic complexes have been synthesized and characterized.•Complex 1 shows a two-dimensional bilayer structure containing (3,6) networks.•Complex 2 holds a three-dimensional heterometallic framework.•The fluorescence spectra of the complexes have also been investigated.
Two new heterometallic coordination polymers: [Pb2Zn(btc)2(H2O)6] (1), [Pb2Cd(btc)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (2) (H3btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal condition and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, PXRD and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1, showing a two-dimensional (2D) bilayer structure containing (3,6) networks with the binuclear [Pb2O8] units acting as six-connected nodes. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/a and features a heterometallic 3D framework. Solid state emission spectra of both the two compounds have also been studied at room temperature.
