Abstract
Effect of varying excitation wavelength on the Raman spectral intensity of benzophenone molecule has been examined. The overlapped bands are resolved using two-dimensional correlation method. The symmetric and asymmetric pair associated with a particular type of vibration is highly asynchronously correlated. Evidently no corresponding cross peaks are present in the synchronous spectra. This finding indicates that the succession of change of amplitude of symmetric and asymmetric vibrations related with that specific mode is not simultaneous but completely chronological. Interaction of CO group with the surroundings may be responsible for the appearance of a relatively lower wavenumber peak correspond to new type of CO stretching vibration.
