A novel uranyl complex K (H2O)[(UO2)3(μ3-OH)3(μ2-O)(C7H4O4N)2] is reported as synthesized via hydrothermal treatment of uranium oxynitrate and p-nitrobenzoic acid. The structure of the complex is quite unusual. It consists of one-dimensional [(UO2)3(μ3-OH)3(μ2-O)(C7H4O4N)2] ribbons along the b-axis. These ribbons are linked to form two-dimensional sheet structure by the potassium ion that serves to bridge between the two adjacent ribbons. The three-dimensional architecture is completed by the bridging of the sheet via p-nitrobenzoic acid. The complex is studied by DSC–TGA in order to get more information about its thermal stability. Crystallographic data: Monoclinic, space group C2/c, a=27.516(3) Å, b=12.3733(12) Å, c=16.2670(16) Å, β=116.0650(1)°, Z=8 (T=293(2) K).
