Abstract
A novel supramolecular complex containing one-dimensional channels of formula [Cd(2,2′-bipy)(Phmal)(H2O)]·1.5H2O (Phmal=phenylmalonate, 2,2′‐bipy=2,2′-bipyridine) has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), UV-vis spectra. X-ray crystallographic studies of the complex reveal that the cadmium atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry being coordinated by two nitrogen atoms of 2,2′‐bipy, three oxygen atoms from the phenylmalonate ligand and one water. The supramolecular network is constructed from one dimensional chain which was further linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and intermolecular π-π stacking interactions. The complex represents the first three‐dimensional supramolecuar network constructed from the mixed phmal and 2,2′‐bipy ligand.
