Abstract
A novel supramolecular complex containing one-dimensional channels of formula [Cd(2,2â²-bipy)(Phmal)(H2O)]·1.5H2O (Phmal=phenylmalonate, 2,2â²âbipy=2,2â²-bipyridine) has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), UV-vis spectra. X-ray crystallographic studies of the complex reveal that the cadmium atom exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry being coordinated by two nitrogen atoms of 2,2â²âbipy, three oxygen atoms from the phenylmalonate ligand and one water. The supramolecular network is constructed from one dimensional chain which was further linked by O-Hâ¯O hydrogen bonds and intermolecular Ï-Ï stacking interactions. The complex represents the first threeâdimensional supramolecuar network constructed from the mixed phmal and 2,2â²âbipy ligand.
