Abstract
► Crystalline shells formed in diopside glass powders lead to elastic stresses. ► Elastic stresses result in a switch from the diopside to a wollastonite-like phase. ► With an increase of the crystalline layer, pores are formed in the diopside glass. ► The generalized Gibbs approach yields correct results for the nucleation process. ► Such processes are expected to be of general relevance for sintering.
