Abstract
The mechanical properties of Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 (Vitreloy 1, (Vit. 1)) have been examined after cold rolling. For the cold rolled Vit. 1 up to 18% in thickness reduction, both ultimate compressive strength and ductility exhibited up to 1.95 GPa with 20% of elongation. It appears that the increase of strength and elongation was due to the high density of shear bands together with in situ nano-crystallization by cold rolling. The in situ nano crystallization was confirmed by Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM). The enhancement of mechanical properties was discussed in terms of in situ nano-crystallization and structural stability of Vit. 1.
