Abstract
► Nucleating oxide nodule generates nonuniform mechanical stress in the metal, Zr. ► Alloying elements are redistributed in the induced field of mechanical stress. ► If it leads to lower local corrosion rate, further growth of the nodule is suppressed. ► Effect of additives on resistivity of Zr alloys to nodular corrosion is analyzed. ► Analytical findings are in agreement with experimental data for Zircaloys.
