Abstract
Thermodynamic properties of two intermetallic phases CdZr2(s) and Cd3Zr(s) in the binary Cd–Zr system have been investigated. The standard molar enthalpy of formation ΔfH2980 of CdZr2(s) and Cd3Zr(s) was obtained by measuring the reaction enthalpy of CdZr2(s), Cd3Zr(s) and Zr(s), respectively, using Cd(l) in a Calvet calorimeter. The values of ΔfH2980 of CdZr2(s) and Cd3Zr(s) at 298 K were found to be −(61.7 ± 1.2) kJ mol−1 and −(72.3 ± 0.9) kJ mol−1, respectively.
