Abstract

SmCo thin films have been grown using pulsed laser deposition on Si substrates to explore the effect of temperature on the growth of films. The substrate temperature has been observed to affect strongly the crystalline nature of the films as exhibited by the diffraction patterns. Moreover, it has been observed that by increasing the substrate temperature from room temperature to 500 °C, the concentration of Sm and Co contents present in the thin film samples varied slightly. The films mainly exhibit hard magnetic characteristics enough to be exploited for permanent storage media.
