Abstract
Let AA be a square matrix with some special Jordan forms. When AA is nonsingular, we find all the solutions of the quadratic matrix equation AXA=XAXAXA=XAX, which commute with AA. We also find infinitely many solutions commuting with AA, depending on several parameters, when AA is singular.
