The P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction solar cell fabricated by doctor blade was investigated. Interestingly, the bladed solar cell showed higher the open-circuit voltage (Voc), the short-circuit current (Jsc), fill factor, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) than spin-coated solar cell, and it is also observed that the phases of P3HT and PCBM is separated well. The bladed cell shows high UV–Vis absorption and external quantum efficiency, therefore it is estimated that the dense film might be coated for some reason. The PCE of the optimized solar device was 3.6%.
► Doctor-blading of P3HT:PCBM solution gave denser film than spin coated film. ► The dense film showed enhanced light absorption. ► This film also has higher power conversion efficiency in solar cell device.
