Abstract
Gold nanorods were prepared by the seed-mediated method described by Jana et al. Effects of reaction temperature and hydroxylamine concentration on the aspect ratio and yield of the gold nanorods were investigated by UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Increase in the reaction temperature led to a decrease in the aspect ratio of the gold nanorods. Results showed that the addition of hydroxylamine drastically improved the yield. In addition, Au/Pt hybrid nanodumbbells were synthesized by controlling the growth conditions. The growth mechanism of the gold nanorods is discussed with respect to the reaction temperature and hydroxylamine concentration of reaction medium.
