Abstract

N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) as a new film-forming additive has been theoretically and experimentally studied for a graphite (CMS) electrode in a PC-based electrolyte for lithium ion batteries. It was found that the additive showed a higher reduction potential than that of PC, consistent with the results of quantum chemical calculation. Electrochemical studies including cyclic voltammetry and cycling behavior show that the added NVP molecules can improve the electrochemical performance of graphite in PC-based electrolyte.
