Abstract
Electro-oxidation of Cr(III)–Cr(VI) species was investigated on the (1 1 1) plane of a gold single crystal in a highly alkaline solution. This process was found to be structure sensitive due to the involvement of the OH− anion in the rate-determining step. It was noticed additionally, that in the ionic system the lifting of the reconstruction could be due to the coadsorption of the anions from the supporting electrolyte and the anions supplied from the electro-oxidation process.
