Abstract

We present a comprehensive study of the Coulomb dissociation reactions induced by 19C at high energies on heavy targets within the framework of eikonal approximation approach with a motive to investigate its ground state structure. Various observables of the reaction are well described by assuming the predominance of [0+⊗2s1/2] core–neutron spin coupling in the ground state of 19C. However, the tail observed in the longitudinal momentum distribution of 18C coming from the breakup of 19C is better explained by considering the coupling of 2s1/2 neutron with highly excited (Ex=4.0MeV) core state.
