Abstract

We present a quick overview of the current knowledge about the highest energy cosmic rays. We introduce the Pierre Auger Observatory as our tool to study these cosmic rays. Some of the results obtained are a measurement of the spectrum of cosmic rays at the highest energies, the observation of an anisotropy in the distribution of arrival directions of the most energetic events, limits on the photon and neutrino fluxes, and an indication of the type of primary particles observed. We conclude with an outlook on the future, where we present enhancements on the southern site and plans for the northern site of the observatory.
