Abstract
The construction of the ATLAS detector for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is well advanced. Most of the detector components are already installed in the ATLAS cavern and have entered the commissioning phase. We will describe the present status of the installation and commissioning work, and discuss selected experimental issues that will be relevant for analyzing the first data.
