Abstract
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a multi-purpose detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) being built at CERN. The muon spectrometer, designed to identify, reconstruct and measure muons with high efficiency and accuracy, plays a key role in the trigger of the experiment. The barrel region is instrumented with Drift Tube chambers (DT) which are used both for tracking and trigger purpose. The design and the performance of the DT system are presented, focusing in particular on the status of its installation in the experimental area and on the analysis of data from the commissioning phase.
