Abstract
The Large Hadron Collider LHC will start operating, at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland in 2007. CMS is one of the two general purpose detectors that will collect data at the LHC. A brief overview of the CMS detector is given, followed by the status of the construction, installation and commissioning. In particular a successful magnet test and cosmic challenge data taking with a part of the detector was carried out during the summer of 2006. Special attention is paid to detectors instrumental for Cosmic Ray studies.
