Abstract
A new very promising read out, in addition to the well known charge centroid method, is proposed for improving the spatial resolution in the RPC in the sub-millimeter range. The method is based on the read out of the signal propagating in the graphite electrode which was simulated using a distributed resistance-capacitance model in SPICE. The results show that a good space-time correlation is only possible by suitable signal processing. Three RPC detectors with a new layout and dedicated electronics were tested. The measured space resolution is in the order of a few 100 μm.
