Abstract
Density matrix theory is applied to explore the radiative electron capture into the exited states of highly charged, heavy ions. Emphasis is placed on the linear polarization of the recombination photons. Detailed computations have been carried out for the Stokes parameters of the X-ray emission following the electron recombination into 2s1/2 and 2p3/2 states of bare uranium ions U92+ and for a wide range of projectile energies.
