L2,3 X-ray production cross-sections (σLjx; j=ℓ,α,βj=ℓ,α,β and γγ) were measured for 4 elements in the atomic range 70≤Z≤78. The measurements were performed using the 241Am radioisotopes as photon sources, and carried out excitation L2 and L3 subshells of relevant elements that were exposed to a beam of selected K X-rays from secondary sources. The values of average subshells fluorescence yield (ϖ2,3ϖ2,3) were determined using the total L2,3 X-ray production cross-section. The measured values were compared with theoretical and semi-empirical values.
► Total L2,3 X-Ray production cross-sections for Yb, Lu, Os and Pt elements were measured. ► Average L2,3 subshell fluorescence yields ϖ2,3ϖ2,3 for Yb, Lu, Os and Pt elements have been semi-empirically determined. ► Average L2,3 subshell fluorescence yield ϖ2,3ϖ2,3 was compared with results from experimental and theoretical studies.
