Abstract

•Graphene oxide is irradiated by γ-ray in an ethylenediamine/water blend solution.•Reduction and modification effects on graphene oxide by irradiation are confirmed.•Ethylenediamine are attached onto RMGO sheets due to the recombination of radicals.

Graphene oxide (GO) was dispersed in an ethylenediamine (EDA) aqueous solution and then irradiated by γ-ray under the protection of nitrogen gas at room temperature. Reduction and modification effects were confirmed. The reduced and modified GO (RMGO) was characterized by ultra-violet visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffract meter (XRD) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA).
