Abstract
In this work we study the excitation of surface plasmons in tubular nanostructures by impact of charged particles. The dispersion relation for the frequencies of the modes is studied on the basis of a Drude model for the dielectric function, and the results are compared to the cases of capillaries and wires. This approach is used to calculate the induced field and the stopping force on a particle following a trajectory parallel to the tube axis.
