Abstract
The fermentation kinetics of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production by Schizochytrium limacinum OUC88 were studied in a batch system. A simple model was proposed to use the logistic equation for growth, X0 and μm is 0.37 g l−1 and 0.08 h−1, respectively. The Luedeking–Piret-like equations were used for DHA production and glucose consumption, α = 0.139 g g−1, β = 0.001 g g−1 h−1, YX/S = 0.46 g g−1, and m = 0.005 g g−1 h−1. The model appeared to provide a reasonable description for each parameter during the growth phase. Results verified that the model met well with the observed experimental kinetics.
