Abstract
⺠Since its discovery nine years ago, little is known about the effects of apoA-V on lipoprotein metabolism and other functions aside from modulating TG homeostasis. ⺠Demonstrated that the addition of apoA-V to rHDL resulted in changes in several rHDL properties, including increased lipid-binding ability, phospholipid content, particle size. ⺠Demonstrated that both lipid-free and lipid-bound apoA-V have significant antioxidant capacity against LDL in vitro. ⺠Demonstrated that apoA-V of rHDL have no influence on the uptake of oxidized LDL and intracellular lipid accumulation in THP-1 derived macrophages. ⺠Our current results may partly explain the anti-atherosclerotic properties of apoA-V besides its TG lowering mechanism.
