Abstract
Various 5-substituted indoles are shown to inhibit effectively both the enzymatic and autoxidation of dopamine. The inhibition of the enzymatic oxidation is suggested by kinetic studies to be non-competitive. 5-Hydroxyindoles are also shown to inhibit the enzymatic oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine.
