Abstract
Ethical decision-making models grounded in ethical frameworks comprehend elements of moral philosophy such as utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. This paper proposes an ethical decision-making model in design based on Sartre’s philosophy and ethics. The model aims at having the designer gain awareness and acceptance of his/her freedom and responsibility in design practice. The paper argues that the model’s achievement rests on how it addresses ethical dilemmas in design practice in relation to individual freedom and responsibility, and on its acknowledgment of complete subjectivity.
