•Porphyrin-clay three-dimensional system was prepared by size-matching effect and Langmuir–Blodgett technique.•High density without unfavorable aggregation assembly structure of porphyrin was constructed.•Anisotropic energy transfer between porphyrin molecules at different layer took place.•Obtained porphyrin-clay three-dimensional system could be a promising candidate for artificial light harvesting system.
Anisotropic energy transfer system was successfully prepared by a combination of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique and Size-matching effect. Tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium-3-yl) porphyrin (m-TMPyP) and tetrakis(1-methylpyridinium-4-yl) porphyrin (p-TMPyP) were used as energy donor and acceptor, respectively. High density assembly structure without unfavorable aggregation of them was constructed. In the LB membrane system, efficient anisotropic energy transfer between p-TMPyP and m-TMPyP at different layer proceeded. The maximum energy transfer efficiency was 85%.
