Abstract
The purpose of this article was to discuss sclerotherapy of spider telangiectasia. The article discusses the importance of identifying typical patterns and treating the associated causes of the telangiectasia whether the source is from reticular veins, incompetent perforators, or truncal insufficiency. It identifies the current food drug administration solutions and the use of foam sclerotherapy. Complications are addressed and nursing implications for treatment or avoidance of those complications. Techniques for performing sclerotherapy and posttreatment nursing care are described. Sclerotherapy is a process and realistic expectations need to be set not only for the patient but also for the practitioner performing sclerotherapy.
