Abstract
340 years ago Niels Stensen described a congenital heart malformation consisted of a specific constellation. The more detailed description was made more than two centuries later by Étienne-Louis Arthur Fallot - a doctor who died precisely 100 years ago. This was a cyanotic heart defect, hence the term 'the blue baby syndrome'. In 1944 Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas in Baltimore made a first trial of paliative operation in tetralogy of Fallot by joining pulmomary artery with subclavial artery. This vessels anastomosis was fixed in a medical terminology as a 'Blalock-Taussig shunt'.
