Abstract
There is a significant difference between the infant feeding recommendations and their realization. In the region of Western Pomerania the prevalence of breastfeeding is still too low in the first six months of life. In the last few years in the studied region an increased prevalence of breastfeeding by mothers living in smaller towns and villages has been observed. There is a clear need for an information campaign on infant nutrition. It is highly important to increase the role of health care providers in sharing knowledge about infant feeding techniques and the multidimensional benefits of breastfeeding.
