Abstract
Submucous cleft palate presents the less known subtype of isolated cleft palate. Because of its occult nature this form of cleft palate is far more difficult in diagnostics than overt palatal clefts and remains often overlooked, even by health professionals. In many cases its incidence becomes evident after adenoidectomy procedure. The authors present the distinctive features of this form of cleft palate as well as the modern diagnostic measures. The indications for surgical treatment and its main modalities are also discussed.
