Abstract
Inter-gender differences in body satisfaction may indicate a different way of coping with the disease by girls and boys. Possibly girls are more aware of their disease and have better access to emotions concerning the body. In comparison with boys, they are less likely to use the mechanism of denial. It is possible, that boys also more often use the mechanism of reaction formation to cope with suffering from a somatic disease. Our results clearly indicate the necessity of including some forms of psychological help in the treatment of children with diabetes.
