Abstract
Middle aortic syndrome is a rare atypical aortic coarctation generated by segmental narrowing of the abdominal or distal thoracic aorta. This malformation could be the cause of severe and poorly controlled hypertension in children and teenagers. In our study we describe 2 boys with upper limb hypertension due to middle aortic syndrome. We emphasize the limited value of echocardiography as a routine diagnostic procedure at the same time. Multislice computer tomography, magnetic resonance or angiocardiography is necessary to diagnose the narrowing of distal descending aorta. Percutaneous angioplasty with stent implantation is a preferable procedure alternative to surgery in the treatment of patients with middle aortic syndrome. In spite of those possibilities late follow-up may be uncertain.
