Abstract
The premature child with active retinopathy was submitted to regular ophthalmologic control including evaluation of the anterior as well as fundus of the eye by employing RetCam apparatus and Fisson ophthalmoscope with 28.0 Dptr lens. Additionally, at all events the B mode ultrasonographic examination of the eye bulb was performed using Echo Scan 300 Oculus apparatus. The Ocu-Light SL diode laser (Iris Medical) of 810 nm wave length was employed in the treatment. Regular ophthalmologic observations revealed the limited success in laser therapy and cryotherapy within one eye. Unfortunately, the administration of BCG vaccine occurred to be the triggering factor responsible for initiation of inflammatory response and final failure of the treatment with the following detachment of retina in this eye. BCG vaccination, which seems to be the potential cause of the deterioration of the active retinopathy in preterm infants, should be delayed until the ophthalmologic status is improved.
